Home battery performance metrics

About the Zoa Supplier tools product

The supplier tools is a B2B product allowing busnisess to manage their fleet of home batteries that are installed in their cusromers homes..

Overview

Operators managing battery fleets have no way to assess the technical performance of individual devices within the device health product, making it impossible to proactively identify degradation, warranty risk, or performance issues without relying on manufacturers portals.

What I worked on

  • Find out what data we can get from the backend
  • Understand what problems the data can solve for users
  • Create low fidelity designs for user testing and validate the data shown is useful
  • Create high fidelity designs with rounds of feedback from the cross functional team to validate technical feasibility
  • Scoping what work we can deliver in the time allocated with product and eng
  • Split the work into phases for development to release fast

Problem

Customers have a contractual obligation to replace batteries when they degrade over a certain amount of time and ideally be replaced within the warranty. Manufacturers (OEM) of batteries have different thresholds for battery degradation (battery cycles, total throughput), different warranty periods which could be different from standard if they have an agreement with our customers.

What data is useful for operators managing a fleet to know about a device that can help them determine that a device is performing as it should be. How can we standardise this across multiple manufacturers who have very different APIs to each other?

More detail coming soon! 🙏
